Meet Lauren, People Operations Generalist at STORD, and learn why she says the people and the ability to make an impact are the best parts of the job.

Why did you choose STORD?

I’ve worked for many different-sized companies in my career, but my favorite environments to work in have always been new and growing businesses. My dad started a small business selling unfinished hardwood furniture in a flea market when I was a kid, and since then he’s grown the company into the largest manufacturing/retail hardwood furniture location on the East Coast.

STORD reminds me of my dad’s early days -- everyone here is entrepreneurial and energetic, which is what attracted me. The ability to make a significant impact through my job has always been a driving factor in my career and education choices. STORD gives me the ability to grow and exhibit my skills.

What do you do at STORD?

As a People Operations Generalist, I’m responsible for a little bit of everything that has to do with our people. I handle all of our human resources operations and recruiting for our finance, marketing and network services departments. I work closely with our talent acquisition team on optimizing STORD’s orientation and training processes and finding new ways to improve our entire employee experience.

What do you like most about your job?

Two things: Autonomy and the people. The STORD company culture is exciting, and we are proud to offer a career experience that makes our team members excited to come to work everyday. STORD provides employees with challenging work and talented colleagues, creating an environment of continuous development through collaboration and diverse thinking.

What has been your favorite project to work on?

Improving the benefits package offered to our employees. It was my first project and gave me awesome insight into how STORD operates as a workplace. I researched all options in the marketplace and presented our founders with a plan for implementation and a five-year benefits projection strategy. They were incredibly receptive to my suggestions and instilled a lot of confidence in my ability to execute high-level projects with a company-wide impact.

What do you like to do when you aren’t working?

I most enjoy spending time with my loved ones: friends, family and pets! When the weather is nice, I can be found outdoors walking my dog through Oakland Cemetery or hanging out by the pool. I spend extra energy left over from the workday on various physical activities like swimming, lifting, yoga and rock-climbing. I love live music and use most of my frivolous spending money on shows and concerts.
