Macy’s Rolls Out New Warehouse Management System
Macy’s is rolling out a new in-house warehouse management software that uses Google Cloud’s data management and analytics offerings to scale supply chain optimization to more than 200 of its off-price stores. The new WMS will eventually be embedded in distribution centers for Macy’s and Bloomingdale’s department stores and online direct-to-consumer orders.
UPS Ventures Invests in Autonomous Driving Company
UPS’s venture-capital division has invested in autonomous driving company TuSimple, who is developing technology that allows shipping companies to operate self-driving class 8 tractor-trailers. UPS is continuing its partnership with the tech company as it experiments with implementing autonomous trucks into its freight network to reduce cost and increase efficiency.
San Francisco Issues Permit for Postmates Delivery Robot
Postmates has received a permit from San Francisco to test its delivery robot, Serve, in a limited area of the city. Postmates’s is the first permit the city has issued – other sidewalk robot companies had tried to test in San Francisco a couple years ago, but 2017 regulations limited capabilities. Palo Alto, Redwood City and Mountain View all already allow sidewalk delivery robots to operate.
