Celadon Group Shuts Down Business Operations
Truckload carrier Celadon Group, whose customers included Lowe’s, Walmart and Proctor & Gamble, filed for bankruptcy this week and shut down all its business operations. Shippers who carried loads with Celadon may experience “short-term dislocations,” but overall trucking capacity is not expected to be affected.
Cold-Storage Industry Starting to Boom
Growing online grocery sales and rising demand for fresh produce is heating up the cold-storage industry — investors bought $1.9B of refrigerated warehouses in the first three quarters of 2019, more than any year in the past decade. Cold-storage warehouses are 3 times more costly to build than ambient warehouses and require additional, specialized staff.
Autonomous Truck Completes Coast-to-Coast Delivery
Trucking company Plus.ai’s autonomous vehicle carried a refrigerated truckload of butter 2,800 miles from Tulare, California to Quakertown, Pennsylvania. It was the company’s first Level 4 autonomous coast-to-coast delivery – a driver and safety engineer were on board at all times, and they complied with hours of service regulations.
