Stein Mart to Offer BOPIS at All Locations

Stein Mart has announced that it will offer buy online, pick up in-store (BOPIS) in all of its locations, making it the first off-price retailer in the U.S. to do so, according to Stein Mart’s president MaryAnne Morin.  The retailer has also adopted “Smart Fulfillment,” which speeds up delivery times and decreases shipping costs by finding the best store or warehouse to send customers’ orders from.

Macy’s to Offer Free Same-Day Delivery

Starting on October 1st, Macy’s will offer same-day delivery on orders over $75 without the usual $8 membership fee to 30 U.S. markets. The offer is thought to be a “subtle dig” at Amazon, who has set a new standard for delivery by offering same-day delivery to its customers for a $119 annual fee.

Researchers at Hong Kong Polytechnic University implemented a cloud-based system with a local logistics provider that automatically groups e-commerce orders by SKUs that were physically close to one another in the warehouse. The system resulted in slightly increased order planning time, but drastically reduced picking time.
